Bereavement & Grief Counselling

"There is no normal way to grieve. Except for the way we each do it."
(Melvina Young)

BEREAVEMENT COUNSELLING

Unprocessed grief and loss can lead to mental, emotional, physical and spiritual crises. The loss of anyone significant in our lives can make our world fall apart. We can feel numb, heartbroken, confused, adrift, and lost at sea. It can feel very empty or lonely. Everyone grieves in a unique way.

Members of the same family can experience huge differences in the way they cope with a death and this can lead to tensions and stress. The loss of children or any person through a traumatic event such as a miscarriage, suicide, an accident or terminal illness can be a devastating blow.
Bereavement counselling provides a compassionate, safe, and non-judgmental space where you can process the impact of your loss, navigate it with a sense of calm, and, in time, find hope and a path forward - without any pressure to "move on."

The loss may have occurred when you were very young but it is something you have never had the opportunity to speak about. Recent events may trigger turmoil related to previous bereavements. It may be recent or years ago. It may have shaped your entire life but you were not aware of it.

Whatever it is, I hope I can support you in your time of grief and loss and enhance your life in some way.

We cannot bring a lost loved one back, as much as we long to, but we can honour them by exploring how to continue those bonds. Conversely, we may be relieved at the death of a significant other but feel guilty and ashamed of our emotions. Bereavement counselling says that too, is okay, and you can learn to make meaning of those emotions and set yourself free.

GRIEF COUNSELLING

There is increasing recognition that the process of grief can create significant, if not debilitating imbalances in a person’s mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. Whist bereavement refers to the grief and feelings of loss experienced when someone physically dies, grief can be experienced in many other events which feel like ‘death’ in our lives. From that perspective, the COVID Pandemic threw up so many ‘deaths’ than one could have ever imagined. A safe and stable way of life can be snatched from us leaving us feeing lost, bereft and in free-fall.

Life is full of TRANSITIONS that can prove to be very challenging and create feelings of intense grief and loss.

Some of these include:
✤ Transitioning from youth into adulthood
✤ Identity crisis
✤ Ageing into the elder years
✤ Retirement and redundancies
✤ Menopause
✤ Empty nest syndrome
✤ Singledom/Divorce
✤ Childlessness
✤  Moving from University into the work place
... and many more

Grief counselling offers an opportunity to make meaning of your grief and losses, reposition yourself with life to live a more joyful and fulfilling one.

Grief is complex. But it can be negotiated. We can return to feeling a bit more balanced with support and time.

Whatever it is, I hope I can support you in your time of grief and loss.
